Space Daze: The History & Mystery of Electronic Ambient & Space Rock
By Dave Thompson
From Hawkwind to Coil this 148 page book details the beginning of space rock,
ambient, with smattering of gothic and the early days of electronic industrial.
The book covers the musical history from a side I was not familiar with until
reading. I was unaware of the influences of many of the space rock bands such
as Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream and Nik Turner. The book is very
thorough documenting from as early as 1967 to the present covering just about
ever band, concert and musical event relating to the ambient movement from the
rock perspective as opposed to the techno rave movement. I left the book feeling
satisfied that I at least tryed to understand of the music that makes up much
of my life even if the book as a bit long winded for my tastes. Also included
at the end of the book are the discographies of all of the major artists
discussed within. For that reason alone this book was very informative.
