Spahn Ranch return after their highly successful sophomore release with a
techno heavy influenced body of work known as "Architecture". Gone are concept
themes of the past, and instead they have been replaced by an album that is
much less cohesive. From the first track, it is obvious that Spahn Ranch have
thoroughly grasped the burgeoning Electronica scene and have gone out of their
way to utilize all of it's trappings. A casual flip through all of the tracks
provide for a dizzying array of genre hopping from trance, drum & bass, disco,
ballads, to even a cover version of the Equals, 'Black Skinned Blue Eyed
Boys'. Athan & crew have definitely made a drastic change with this release
and will most certainly loose many fans of their previous material. However, I
think that "Architecture", is simply a sign of a mature band trying to expand
it's musical boundaries to avoid remaining stagnant. Sure they will have a few
growing pains, but ultimately they will evolve into a stable project with a
definite future both ahead and behind them.
