This EP is a collection of remixes and live versions of songs off Spahn Ranch's
last album, "The Coiled One." The title is derived from a portion of the chorus
from the second track, 'Vortex'. Having considered that album to have been one
of the best of 1995, I was very curious to see if it could live up to it's
predecessor. From the first listen, I could tell that I was going to be
extremely pleased with the mixing results. The majority of the remixes are
dance floor oriented and are considerably harder and more fast paced. However,
the real gems of the EP are the live tracks. Albeit the sound quality isn't all
that great, yet the live tracks have a raw emotional context to them which they
lack in the studio versions. Having not had a chance to see Spahn Ranch live
myself I was finally pacified in the knowledge that they have a very solid live
stage presence musically. My only real complaint on this EP is the fact that
only five different tracks were used, each with two versions. Surely they could
have worked with more material from the album, but I suppose beggars can't be
choosers.
