With all of the positive press concerning November 17 or N17 as they are more
commonly called, I was expecting a little bit more than a Metal band with a
sampler and drum machine. Unfortunately, just a single listen to the album
pointed out that N17 was just another Metal crossover band who was trying to
use technology in order to achieve appeal in a broader musical market. However,
what N17 didn't realize was that in order to achieve the kind of market
penetration they desired, was that they would have to forsake the guitar as a
lead instrument and instead use it as accompaniement to the electronics. Of
course, that didn't happen, and we are left with a band who still plays guitar
and drum solos throughout the album. As a result, N17 is simply a Thrash Metal
band with some new toys who are simply rehashing music that bands like Stabbing
Westward, Filter, and God Lives Underwater have been playing for years.
November 17 is:
Trevor Askew - vocals
Damon - bass
Chris Cannela - guitar
Mark Keltner - guitar & programming
Jason Kowalski - drums
