Just when you thought it was impossible for Funker Vogt to escape the
Leatherstrip and :wumpscut: hybrid sound so evident on their debut album, along
they come with "We Came To Kill" and shed the comparison like a snakeskin.
Their second album is so different stylistically from previous work that it is
hard to accept that it was indeeded written by the same band. I'm not sure
whether this is due to the inclusion of numerous sampled guitars, the well
textured electronics or the addition of a new band member. Funker Vogt even
include some slower material for those who need a break between the barrage of
higher BPM tracks. My only complaint with "We Came To Kill" is the overuse of
vocal effects that ruin what is a very phenomenal male singing voice. Jens
Kastel should simply leave his voice unmodified because on the few tracks where
he sings unaided, his voice sounds stellar. Otherwise, Funker Vogt have
certainly evolved beyond the derivative stigma of their first album into a very
impressive project.
Funker Vogt is:
