Dead Voices On Air: Abrader

Abrader is a limited edition cassette only release of the first solo work
by Mark Spybey of Dead Voices On Air. It contains two exclusive tracks and
one track which appears on Spybey's third album "Shap". Intriguingly enough
much of this material is extremely noisy compared to much of the later DVOA
material. Musically speaking, the aural intonations are equivalent to
material on "Shap" but with the duration of songs from "New Words Machine."
Instead of remaining content to work with finite elements of sound over a
discrete period of time, this early work instead stretches the aural
manifestations over extended time periods. Often it appears that the
music is reaching a crescendo of cacophony only to suddenly quiet and
build again. By comparing the sheer volume of material that Spybey has
released in the past calendar year, both side projects, and solo work,
with this older release, one can begin to deconstruct some of the
fundamental musical techniques that Mark uses to create his compositions.
This tape is the consummate example of a retrospective work and should
not be missed by diehard fans at any cost.
