Covenant: Europa

- I Am
- Final Man (Album Version)
- Go Film
- Wall of Sound
After the brilliance of the first single 'Final Man' taken from "Europa",
I had nothing but high hopes for the third album from this Swedish
trio. Yet it only took a few listens to note that while the band sheds much
of it's Synth-Pop influence, the music becomes formulaic at best and inane
at worst. I definitely expected a little more innovation and change from
the styles found on "Sequencer" and "Dreams of the Cryotank", but those dreams
have definitely been shattered. Instead, Covenant simply rewrote their
last album. Albeit, Covenant at its worst is light years ahead of
most acts, but I expected so much more from these Electronic pioneers than
a hand full of club friendly tracks. Nevertheless, if you are a Covenant fan
because they can get you moving on the dancefloor, you will certainly
enjoy "Europa". If you are like me, however, expecting a radical musical
change that would take IDM to another level, look elsewhere.
Covenant is:
Eskil Simonsson - composition & vocals
Jakim Montelius - lyrics & samples
Clas Nachmanson - performance & keyboards
