Control Group: Demo

  1. Slow
  2. Empath
  3. You Cause as Much Sorrow
  4. Relative

Control Group is new project by Ty Glazar from Seattle. From the muddiness of the mixdown, it is obvious that this demo was recorded in a bedroom studio, far from professional. This is, however, the first time Ty has ever submitted music for review, so it should be expected that the music is a little rough around the edges. Musically, the tracks are collections of sampled guitars, percussion, and electronics with effected, yet still very rock style, vocals over the top. In places the music reminds me of Acumen Nation or 16 Volt with drawn out electronic prologues that are slowly overtaken by the sampled guitars but remain in place throughout the remainder of the tracks. Several tracks also use electronic piano in places that serve as a good juxtaposition to the sequenced loops and vocal stanzas. Overall Control Group has a firm grip on both the technical and compositional portions of the music. Now, if Ty works a little bit more on the production, he will have a quality demo that he can shop to interested labels.
