Canister has spent a great deal of time in the past few years investing in new
talent and it certainly shows. In the past they were extremely unable to focus
on a solid musical direction but that issue has definitely been resolved on
this, their debut album. Musically, Canister is a very gothic synth core
project. While not technically a goth band, they use enough of the darker
gothic elements including stereotypical vocal work and guitar chords to make
the comparison at least partially valid. All of the tracks are very mid-tempo
and make use of electronics only as a rhythm section and for percussion. The
remainder of the music is composed of subdued guitars and harmonic vocal work.
Lyrically the music is overly morbid and depressing, exhibiting that gothic
tonality once again. Favorite lyrical topics include painful emotions,
religion, and failed relationships. Overall, Canister has evolved into a very
solid project that seems to know exactly where it is going, now it just needs
to bring it's musical message to the masses.
