After a rather impressive demo tape by this Seattle quartet, I was eager to imbibe a full length album. Unfortunately, from the very first track all of the elements that made the demo so appealing were conspicuously absent. Instead of the music being a rather well rounded mixture of guitars and electronics, it ended up sounding like a another metal hybrid band. The album just screams pop music with it's standard rock composition and rhythm structure. While the electronics are fairly well programmed, the guitar solos and stereotypical lyrical structures overshadow them completely. Now while this album will probably do horrible with the Industrial scene, I can see it doing extremely well within the guitar crossover scene. Pinch shares a great deal of common ground with the likes of Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, and Machines of Loving Grace. However they don't break any new ground or even try to take their music to anywhere but the commercial audience.
