Hellbent must be the Revolting Cocks bastard child of the nineties. Someone has
assembled all of the influential coldwave musical talent of the past five years
into one concrete autonomous unit. With a careful listen and a trained ear one
can pick out each section of the album and who was responsible for each
component. The final commodity is a exquisitely tuned finite element state
machine which hums along with a groove all of it's own. The best way to get a
solid grip on this album is to grab three turntables, slap Chemlab, 16 Volt and
Haloblack on the pads and try and mix the three together. It can't be done you
say? I think that Hellbent is a living proof that it can be accomplished with
only minimal of effort. My only regret is that this album is exceedingly short
and hence doesn't seem to completely satisfy the palette. I suppose one
shouldn't be overly picky when concerned with side projects since the majority
of Hellbent's musical cousins have been aborted excuses for maxi singles (Acid
Horse, 1000 Homo DJ's, etc). So, enjoy the music in the small easy to swallow
doses as to avoid any addicting qualities.
