D.A.C Crowell: Ambience 5-94

After all the fuss over this tape posted on RMI, I had great expectations, I was definitely not let down. The tape came with a full color j-card & flier. All the information about the music and the equipment used came printed on the flier, while the j-card contained only the artist's name and the date of the recording. All the inserts are printed on what appears to be a French coastal survey map. Very impressive artwork for this small independent cassette only release. Well worth the $2 asking price already, and I haven't even gotten to the music yet.

Prinsengracht Extensions dawns into an early morning mist of dreams. The mind floats free from the body and deep into the clouds of the unknown. Pure harmonic bliss transcends the experience as the soul floats down a tunnel of bright light arriving at the end of its journey to eternal sanctification and heaven.

Rain Temple Garden awakens in the midst of a tropical rain forest, with the sound of chirping birds and insects quietly invading your home. A slow, almost chromatic resonance begins to build, ebbing back and forth with the swaying of the trees. True its namesake, this piece purveys a constant feeling of being enclosed within a religious edifice, but without the constraint of walls, allowing angelic opening to nature to begin the true examination of the soul.

A VERY good cassette. Something you could either meditate too, or perhaps just play early in the morning as the sun rises, and experience what it feels like to truly be alive. Unfortunately, by the time you read this, the tape is no longer available. The last date for copies came on June 1st. If you don't already own it, you may have missed one of the years best independent ambient releases.
